WHAT IS TENS?TENS_UNIT_3000.jpg

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a noninvasive therapy for the management of pain.  It is a method of applying small electrical impulses through the skin using surface electrodes.

HOW DOES TENS REDUCE PAIN?

These small electrical impulses inhibit pain signals and decrease pain input to the brain. In addition, studies have shown that during a TENS treatment, the body releases natural pain killers called Beta Endorphins.  These powerful pain killers are produced naturally by the body and are responsible for the sense of euphoria that is sometimes experienced with TENS therapy.

TENS REDUCES MEDICATION RELATED SIDE EFFECTS

Potential side effects of pain medications include constipation, nausea, confusion or more serious gastrointestinal, liver or kidney complications.  TENS decreases the need for pain medication and subsequently their dangerous side effects.  In over 40 years of clinical use, TENS as demonstrated no side effects - no potential for overdose, and no withdrawal symptoms

40 YEARS OF CLINICAL STUDIES PROVE THAT TENS WILL:

Decrease pain in 86% of the cases

Increase physical activity

Promote the return to work

Reduce the need for pain medications
